Great article here putting into perspective just how historic and drastic our debt accumulation has been in recent months. Story extract; we've added half a trillion dollars (!!!) to our national debt in the last ... month. Yes, in the last month. Putting this into perspective, it took 42 years (1940 to 1982) to reach 1 trillion - which, I'd like to note, included the entire financing of World War II.
George Bush inherited a national debt of 5.8 trillion, and has since doubled down... adding another 5 trillion to go with it. Wrong track? The Deficit Hawk says yes.
